This summer at Aubaine is all about ‘Sunshine & Piscine’, and while you might appreciate why we’re celebrating this glorious weather we’re having, you might be a little more confused as to why we are referring to ‘Piscine’ on our new cocktail menus…
You may know that ‘piscine’ means swimming pool in French, but no, regretfully we are not installing a swimming pool ‘a la terrasse’ at any of our restaurants any time soon (although tempting!). We are actually referring to a delicious Champagne and ice cocktail, regularly found being sipped poolside (or beach-side) along the French Riviera during the sweltering summer months. Popular with the French jet set who have been pouring it for years, the cocktail’s number one advocate, Bill Murray, once said, ‘The way I like to drink [Champagne] is in a big pint glass with ice….because Champagne can never be too cold’. In this heatwave, Bill, we couldn’t agree more!
The Aubaine Piscine is a glorious combination of Champagne poured over ice in a large copa glass, topped with a chunks of fresh strawberries. If you need any more reason to try our fantastically French cocktail, the added ice in the drink is thought to counter the effects of dehydration from Champagne in the summer heat – ideal! Of course, this goes against the traditional advice of many Champagne producers who would only recommend serving their sparkling neat, but once you’ve tried this refreshing combination, you won’t be reaching for anything else on a hot, humid evening.
So make sure you take Bill’s advice and don’t miss out on being seen on one of our terraces sipping the swankiest cocktail of the summer. We’ll be serving the Piscine at all of our restaurants, so raise a glass and ‘re-hydrate’ with us while we celebrate this never-ending summer – santé!
